Project Overview

Birmingham Public Schools passed a $150M bond in 2020, and IDS was awarded “Project 2” of the Bond Improvements. All the work at Groves High School, Seaholm High School, the Birmingham Adult Transition Program building, the Education and Administration Center, Midvale, and the district transportation yard are included in the Bond Improvements.

At Seaholm, the football stadium will get some upgrades, including a new press box, storage facilities, entry plaza, and fencing. Other projects include parking lot resurfacing, a new maintenance building, and an addition/renovation of the Birmingham Adult Transition Program building. Additionally, parking lot and generator upgrades will be done at the neighboring Midvale school. This work is slated to be completed over five years.

Part of “Project 2” Bond Improvements include work at Grove’s. These improvements include enhancements at the football stadium. Enhancements included are new grandstands and team building, a press box, storage facilities, concession building, entry plaza, and fencing. The Education and Administration Center attached to Groves will receive water infiltration repairs and interior realignment of administrative departments.

BIRMINGHAM ADULT TRANSITION PROGRAM

At Seaholm, the football stadium will get some upgrades, including; a new press box, storage facilities, entry plaza, and fencing. The remaining stadium upgrades are included within the adjacent auxiliary gym, serving all the nearby outdoor sports needs. Seaholm High School will receive a newly turfed varsity baseball, varsity softball, and practice field. In addition to the freshly turfed fields, Seaholm will be getting a ropes course, new track, and new tennis courts. In conjunction with the new tennis courts, they will be resurfacing the existing tennis courts and adding a covered tennis spectator canopy. Other on-site projects include parking lot resurfacing, a new maintenance building, parking lot, generator upgrades at the neighboring Midvale school, and an addition/renovation of the Birmingham Adult Transition Program building. Projects inside include renovating the counseling and assistant principal’s suite, toilet room, drinking fountain upgrades, and miscellaneous interior and infrastructure renovations.

Grove’s work includes enhancements in the football stadium, such as new grandstands, press box, storage facilities, new team and concession buildings, entry plaza, and fencing. Additionally, athletics are improved by adding turfed varsity baseball, varsity softball, and practice field, as well as a new events field and a new auxiliary gym. Other projects include a front office expansion and renovation, toilet room and drinking fountain upgrades, miscellaneous interior and infrastructure renovations, parking lot resurfacing, and new on-site district maintenance headquarters coupled with a new off-site maintenance storage facility located at the district transportation yard. The Education and Administration Center attached to Groves will receive greatly needed water infiltration repairs and a modest interior realignment of administrative departments.
