COVID-19 Update

To our Valued Partners and Clients,

I wanted to take a moment to reach out to each and every one of you. In response to current public health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus and to help mitigate the spread, Integrated Design Solutions will close our physical offices as of 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Our first priority is the health and safety of our employees. Considering the threat posed by exposure to the virus, this is the safest and most appropriate course of action. We want to ensure that our team has the ability and support to make the best decisions for the health and well-being of themselves and their families.

During this closure of our physical offices, IDS will be fully functional as a remote workplace and through our employees, we will continue to serve you. We are encouraging our staff and clients to utilize collaborative online methods to conduct meetings remotely, such as using video conferencing/teleconferencing technology as a substitute for all non-essential face-to-face meetings.

Please be assured that we will continue to serve you in every way possible as we navigate this unprecedented event together. During this time, it is possible that there may be temporary disruptions to our workflow due to unforeseen circumstances. We will do our best to minimize these interruptions and their impact on you.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Principal-In-Charge or Project Manager. You can also contact me directly.

Inside a Historic Detroit Charter School That Takes Cues From Wes Anderson

Detroit Prep, the free public charter elementary school on Detroit’s East Side, has seen its ups and downs. But this renovated school building, formerly Anna Joyce Elementary (designed in 1916 by Wirt Rowland), hints at a brighter future for the community’s next generation.

Shinola Hotel Named CAM 2019 Project of the Year

IDS attended the CAM Special Issue Awards to recognize the 12 CAM-curated, outstanding construction projects completed within the last year, three of which we were a part of. In addition, we are excited to announce that Shinola Hotel took home the 2019 Project of the Year award. A well-earned congratulations to all the partners who worked on this landmark project, Kraemer Design Group, Barton Malow, Bedrock, and Gachot Studios.

Announcing a New Scholarship!

The Paul Stachowiak & Integrated Design Solutions scholarship is available to Michigan students enrolled in architecture programs of Michigan universities.

Schoolcraft St. Joe's Mercy Elite Sports Center Groundbreaking

Schoolcraft College Breaks Ground on St. Joe’s Mercy Elite Sports Center

Members of the IDS team attended the groundbreaking Monday, January 27 for the new St. Joe’s Mercy Elite Sports Center. The new facility is a part of an expanding program at Schoolcraft College to encourage solving real-world problems in a hands-on environment and create market-viable experiences for students. Additionally, the goal of the center is to integrate the College’s professional academic programs with real-world experiences, offering opportunities to provide services for the athletes, including sports medicine and performance nutrition. In addition to the athletics facilities, the Sports Center features classrooms to support the Schoolcraft College Fitness Leadership Program. The St. Joe’s Mercy Elite Sports Center is expected to be completed in late summer 2020.

A Sneak Peek of the New Michigan Union

The Michigan Union, which has been closed for renovations since April 2018, is set to reopen to the University of Michigan campus community on Jan. 13, 2020. Before the long-awaited reopening, The Michigan Daily and The Michiganensian were invited by the University Unions office for an exclusive tour of the new building.

Located at the heart of campus and known to be the center of student life, the new Union building incorporated more student gathering spaces by enclosing the first floor courtyard and by reconfiguring the floor plan of the front lounges.

The new building also features the IdeaHub, a new meeting space dedicated to the University’s more than 1,600 student organizations. The IdeaHub is meant to replace private office space previously available for a fraction of student organizations. To further open up more meeting spaces for student groups, all University offices have been moved to the third and fourth floors of the building.

Announcing Our Newest Senior Associates and Associates

Integrated Design Solution is proud to announce promotions effective January 1, 2020. Into the role of Senior Associate, IDS welcomes Scott Batzold, Matt Beck, and Nick LaForest. Integrated Design Solutions also is proud to welcome six new associates; Chris Allick, Andrea Everett, Brian Ingham, Greg Koenig, Aubree Robichaud, and Greg Sell.

Scott Batzold has been with Integrated Design Solutions for just under seven years, and has brought his electrical engineering expertise to such projects as the Quicken Loans Data Center and recently-opened Domino’s Innovation Garage.

Matt Beck has been a member of the IDS architecture department for sixteen years, and has gained an expertise working particularly in the education market segments, including projects such as the new Romeo Community Schools RETC high school and the University of Michigan Bioengineering Lab.

Nick LaForest is a registered architect and has been with Integrated Design Solutions for nearly thirteen years. Working within all market segments, with a focus on the higher education sector, Nick has brought his expertise to such projects as the University of Michigan’s Munger Graduate Residences, and is currently leading the completion of the school’s Michigan Union renovation.

Chris Allick is a registered architect and joined IDS in 2015, recently working on projects such as the Domino’s Innovation Garage, United Shore Headquarters, and Oakland University’s Oakland Center.

Andrea Everett first joined IDS in 2013, and after briefly departing the firm, returned for her current tenure in 2017. She works in the architecture department and has led projects such as the Michigan Union and Michigan Alumni Center Renovations.

Brian Ingham has been with Integrated Design Solutions for sixteen years, and as a registered architect, has worked in all market segments. Brian is currently working on the renovation and transformation of Harrison High School into the new Farmington Hills Community Center.

Greg Koenig joined IDS in 2018, bringing a specialty in health care design and project management to the Integrated Design Solutions Grand Rapids office. Greg has worked on such projects as the recently completed Ferris State University College of Pharmacy renovation and supports all the work we do in partnership with McLaren Health System.

Aubree Robichaud is a registered architect and has been with Integrated Design Solutions for over seven years. Aubree has brought her expertise to projects of all kinds, including the University of Michigan’s Michigan Union, and currently the Schoolcraft College Manufacturing and Engineering Center Renovation.

Greg Sell is a professional engineer with the IDS electrical engineering department. Joining IDS in 2013, Greg has worked on such notable projects as the University of Michigan Munger Graduate Residences, the Shinola Hotel in downtown Detroit, and the Detroit Free Press Building.

Emily Trevarrow has earned LEED Green Certification

McLaren Lapeer Groundbreaking

McLaren Lapeer Breaks Ground on New Ambulatory Care Center

Ground was broken Wednesday morning on a new $27.5-million ambulatory care building on the McLaren Lapeer Region campus. Site preparation will get underway in late December or early January, while the building will begin to rise from the ground by late spring toward a completion in mid-2021. The three-story, 92,000-square-foot ambulatory care center will be built on what is now parking lot west of the emergency department section of McLaren Lapeer and will extend nearly to where Barry Drive is currently located.
